2011 is the year I keep my goals. It's decided, I'm doing it. No excuses. The difference this year is that they aren't specific goals I have to accomplish, but rather guidelines to live by. Here are my 11 goals for 2011:

1. Get Healthy

2010 was not a good year for me health wise, I was diagnosed with three, THREE, different disorders and I did nothing about them. Time to swallow my pride and fear and do something about it. I've made appointments and am following though. Not only that, but I've decided I need to start taking better care of myself, from my teeth (going to the dentist next week), to loosing a few pounds (getting back on the eliptical), to trying new things (yoga). I'm doing this!

2. Document Life

Everything from blogging more, journaling, taking pictures, these are the best years of life, I want to be able to remember them and show our kids what shennanigans we got into.

3. Be More Thrifty

I'm a thrift store junkie already, but this goal is more geared towards clothing. I want to add more thrifted and vintage pieces to my wardrobe and I've already designated Thrifting Days into my schedule!

4. Get Out Of Debt

I've been working on this one for a while, but its finally so close. I need to put a plug on my personal spending and focus on paying off debt. This is a scary time in the economy, and the thought of one of us losing our jobs gives me nightmares.

5. Fall More In Love

Next month Jake and I will have been together for 7 years. That is a looooong time. Not only that but with both of us working full time, and me going to school at night, its easy to get in a routine and forget how we used to be. I want to spend more time with my husband, just us two, and remember how silly and care free we used to be, I want to fall even MORE in love with him.

6. Organize

This one always puzzles me. I am a neat freak, a perfectionist, and a planner from hell, but can I organize my life or keep a schedule? No. I want to organize my life, not in a scary way, but in a grocery shop on Sundays way, do laundry on Fridays way, this drawer is for this way, and that closet space is for that way. I'll need to con the husband into helping out with this one.

7. Cook More

We used to eat homecooked meals ALL the time, but with work and school its been impossible lately. We need to get back in the swing of things though, it kills two birds with one stone, we eat at home, and we save money. I also want to bake more, especially, I want to learn to make pie crusts!

8. Make Things

When school starts up again, the first thing to always go is my craft time. But it happens every year, I start getting antsy if I don't make something, sew something, crochet something, I need to "organize" some craft time into my schedule!

9. Travel Out of State

One thing Jake and I have always wanted to do is travel before we had kids, and while the time is getting closer to finally starting our own family, we still haven't traveled much outside of Mexico, Vegas, and Montana. We are seriously considering a trip up the West Coast.

10. Graduate College!

I can't believe I can finally say, "I graduate college THIS year." No more in a few years, no more next year, its THIS year! I am out of my mind estatic for this, its one of the hardest things, no probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do in life, and I can't wait to be done!

11. Personal Secret!

This one is secret for now, I'll disclose when/if it happens!

Wow. Can anyone believe how badly I failed at documenting my 30 for 30? Will anyone believe me if I say I actually did it? Because I did. Ask my husband, he'll tell you how much I complained through it all.

Want to know my excuses? I have a lot: School, work, life, school, school, and school. Leaving home at 7:45 am and getting home at 8:45 pm, doesn't really leave much time for picture taking and blogging does it? But I'll stop complaining now.

I definitely want to do this again, as much as I complained while I was actually doing, I really enjoyed it. It was extra nice to get ready in the morning, and the fluffier pocket book was a huge plus. However, until I am done with school (this FALL!!!) I don't know if I'll be able to document it very well.

Anyway, here is photographic evidence of one of my favorite outfits, sorry for the bad iphone picture. Maybe I can do a 30 for 30 via phone pics?

Day 4

I didn't want to wear this outfit this morning, but I had already penciled it onto my calendar so I made myself wear it. I'm not kidding you about the calendar. I'm a little obsessive when it comes to organization.
Then I looked in the mirror and all of a sudden I was in love. I'm convinced these boots were the best investment I ever made. Paired with a belt in the same color of leather, they can make any outfit look good.
This dress/tunic is my favorite article of clothing I own, its Libertine, and its all about the little details. The buttons have "diamonds" in the center, the sleeves are puffed, the chest has slight gatherings and ruffles, and its the perfect length. I've owned this for a few years now, and its one of the pieces I hope to keep forever and pass down to a future daughter, I think the style is pretty timeless.

Day 3

Yellow Pants. When I saw these at the store, I think I nearly squealed. Mustard yellow is one of my favorite colors, and what could be better than a pair of pants in your favorite color? So I bought my pants and went on my happy way. Then I drove for 2 miles...did I just buy yellow pants? Then I got home...Oh god, I just bought yellow pants. Then I sent a text to my sister with the picture below:

Sister: Are you wearing mustard yellow pants?!?!?!
Me: Yes! They're corduroy though, its ok ; )
Sister: Hahahahahahahaha. I love you.

She made me feel better, those simple words made me realize, yes I wear weird clothes sometimes, but that's why she loves me, I'm weird!

The bright color you see above is the true color!

This outfit was all about using the classic black and white to tone down the brightness of the pants and make it work appropriate. I didn't get a single dirty look! Maybe it worked? I didn't want to add a black necklace and make the outfit too staged, so I added a teal green Lucky necklace instead to give it a bit of color.

I have to say, I really enjoyed this outfit, It was very fun to wear!

Day 2

Do you see that on our mountains? SNOW. Yep, Utah has decided its had enough of this fabulous Fall weather. I knew it was too good to be true. In Northern Utah, our Fall season lasts about 2 weeks, this year it lasted 5 weeks, I guess I should be happy with what we got! However, this means I am going to definitely modify my items, I'll reconvene this weekend with my swaps.
Today's outfit: Lane Bryant tunic, Target cardigan, Alfani Skinny slacks, Seychelles flats, Kenneth Cole necklace.

Here is a closeup of the necklace, its one of my favorite pieces of jewelry.

And a close up of the ruffles on the shirt. Its actually pinstriped. I know, the first pic is so bad you can't really tell!

And one more just to make fun of myself! Don't ask what is going on with my hands, my husband and I were just talking about how much I HATE pictures. I'm telling you, this is a very hard experience for me!

So one thing I learned today, I REALLY like this outfit. I've never worn this combination before and I probably would have never made the connection. Kendi was talking about breaking rules in fashion and that is what I felt I was doing. Blue and white pinstripes? I would have never paired it with black before. Maybe white pants, or jeans, or even colored pants (mustard yellow, red) but never black, but again, I learned I really like how this looks!

I'm going to start this off with an apology: My pictures are horrible! Unfortunetly I don't see them improving as by the time I get home from work/school its pitch black outside and we have to settle for horrible indoor lighting and iPhone pictures.

Second, It snowed today, SNOWED people! I might have to make some adjustments to my 30 picks, I knew it might snow towards the end of my 30 days, but not on my FIRST day! Oh boy, I'm in for a cold month!Close up of Ann Taylor Loft skirt.

Wow, last week was a complete wash! I didn't get one, single picture! By the time I got home from work and school it was about 9 pm each night. I am going to hit rewind and start again tomorrow. So I guess for me, it will technically be 5 weeks! Yikes!

I spent the whole weekend doing laundry, ironing, and "officially" picking out my 30 items. They are all sorted and folder in a laundry basket. It makes me kind of sad that I can fit my entire wardrobe for the next month in ONE laundry basket! Or maybe I'm just crazy, but I'm having major anxiety over just 30 pieces! Ha ha! My poor clothes are going to feel so lonely and neglected!

Wow, I gotta say, this Monday is starting off an eerily good foot. Not only was I on time to work, I was 15 minutes early! Its also the first day of the month, and it starts on a Monday. My OCD is very happy today.

I've been following Kendi's blog for quite some time now, and it sounds like she's getting ready for her 3rd Remix! I've sat in the bleachers for the last two rounds, but I'm finally ready to make the plunge!

If you don't know what 30 for 30 is, check out Kendi's summer edition here.

Basically, you pick out 30 articles of clothing including shoes, and remix those same items for 30 days. Kendi, throws in no shopping, and for the sake of my back account I'm doing the same!

The shoes are a killer for me, so I'm not quite sure yet, if I am going to modify the rules for my own game and say just clothing. I own a gazillion pairs of shoes and I'm not sure if I can limit myself to 3-4 pairs! We'll see, I'm still on the fence, and I have until November 1st to decide!

So excited for this weekend to get here! Jake and I are going on a short weekend getaway to The Alaskan Inn, where we will be staying in our own personal cabin! We plan on going out to dinner and then cozying up next to the fireplace and watch some movies. I hope it snows : )
Saturday night, we might go down to Salt Lake City and go to the SLC 2010 Tattoo Convetion, we need some new art for our walls and there are always great artists there.

This year, I gave Jake his present a little early and it was more of a couples present anyway:
Tattoo'd couple dolls! I originally saw these on Danielle's blog at Sometimes Sweet , but the dolls are from SpitfireGirl. They are modeled after real tattoo'd men and women and they are BIG! I love these dolls, they are a great buy!

52 Books in 52 Weeks

Last year my friend Leanne and I started a very informal book club. It began with the Twilight Series, where she quickly developed and over-obsessive-extremely-hilarious-slightly-psychotic-love for Edward. We read all four books multiple times and Midnight Sun lots and lots of times, if you haven't read it yet, get it HERE Its basically the first half of Twilight written from Edward's perspective. Its divine, you'll swoon, I promise.We then moved on to the Sookie Stackhouse series also knows as the Souther Vampire series. This is the show HBO recently picked up in their TrueBlook series. I promise, the books are MUUUUUCH better, I watched season 1 and althought I didn't like it, of course I have to keep watching it. You start creating a relationship with the characters and can't enough until you find out every bit of info on their lives, not to mention Bill is hot in the show, even though I am definitely Team Eric in the books.

Eventually our book club morped into a vampire obsession. We were reading books like crazy and it seemed some times 2 or 3 books a week. Then school started, and jobs happened, and life got in the way, and slowly we read less and less, but 3/4 of the way through 2009, we readjusted our book lists and vowed to read at least 52 books in 52 weeks, and we did! That is an average of one book a week. Below is a list of the 52 books I read in 2009 and I am already on my second book for 2010.

I have also recruited my husband to join the club. I don't think he's quite as avid a reader and probably won't get the 52 books, but we're shooting for 20 : )

Christmas is here in 4 days!!!!!!! Time to get going on all my Christmas chores! Luckily this is a short week for me so I only have work today and tomorrow, then I am free for 5 days! Monday and Tuesday will be spent cleaning and wrapping gifts.

This year, I bought Hallmark's Adhesive paper and I am pairing it with one of my greatest thrift store scores of the year, 25 yards of mustard yellow velvet ribbon. I am also adding a monogrammed tag, and I couldn't be happier with how they are turning out. I'll post pictures later this week.

Wednesday, I am starting my Christmas baking and I have a huge list of things to make:

Chocolate Mustaches for the kids, Santa has a mustache right? I purchased the mold at BakeItPretty and am wrapping them in silver and red foil.

Ghost Pop Tutorial

We are having a Halloween party this weekend and I decided I wanted to make some cute treats while we watch scary movies!

Follow the directions below to make your own Ghost Pop!

1. Supplies:
Scissors
Lollipops
Ribbon (I used black and pink)
Linen (any white fabric will do, or even tissue or napkins)
Black and Pink Craft Marker

2. Cut your fabric into 7X7 inch squares, they can be smaller or bigger depending on how much of a "train" you want your ghost to have. Also don't worry about precise lines of fraying, it just adds to the spook effect!

3. Take two kiddie corners and gather at center

4. Gather the other two corners

5. Tie off with your ribbon for a bow tie effect

6. Add two eyes and a mouth with black marker and rosy cheeks with your pink marker

Happy Monday!

Had a great weekend with the husband! Did a lot of this:

Hit up 7-11 for their Domo cups and straws and watched the first season of Domo-Kun!

Went on a double date to see this amazing movie and cried my eyes out. Not only sad tears but tears for the incredibly beautiful images I was watching and emotions I was experiencing! Cheesy, I know, but oh so great!

Also watched this movie, and I have to say I am severely disappointed. I was more scared when I got home, at just the thought of being possesed, then by this movie. I kept squeezing my husband's hand braving myself for the huge fright that never came. It was ok, but definitely NOT the "Most terrifying movie of the year." It was more hype than anything. However, in the spirit of full disclosure, I closed my eyes for the last 30 seconds of the movie ; )

We also did a 2 hour drive around Ogden Canyon, looks like this right now:

And lastly, went to the parents house for dinner Sunday night. Afterwards Jake and I, snuck into the little sis' room, and left her a ransom note : )

This week will be all about cleaning, homework, and Halloween activities! Yay!

Today, Jake and I are celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary! I can't believe its been 3 years already! That flew! Here is one of our engagement pictures, it looks so silly now, and we look so young!

Can you believe that we are officially half way done with 2009? This year is flying! A couple of things to mention, I added the two market totes mentioned in my post below to the Etsy Shop

First of all, I hope everyone had a great holiday break! Mine was fantastic, but of course too, too, short. Back to work, back to school, back to regular life : (

Second, sorry I've been MIA, we recently purchased a house and I've been swamped with house stuff, school, and work!

Not to mention, WE GOT A KITTY!!!!!!!! He's absolutely adorable and I love him to pieces! His name is John Rambo. Now why would we name him that you ask? Well, the second day we got him, me and hubster were watching Rambo (the new one), and he sat on the couch and watched the ENTIRE movie with us! Cutest thing ever! Any cat that can stand the awesomeness of Rambo, deserves to be named after the legend, not to mention he has some amazing tactical and hunting skills!

From what I gather so far, you allow Magpie to use your twitter profile to place ads in your name.

The ads will be relevant to what you are twittering about of course. You decide how often the ads show up, every 1 tweet, 5 tweets, 20, tweets, etc.

You get paid a certain amount depending on the "hotness" of your twitter profile and the ads that are chosen for you. Then after you have a certain amount, you can cash out with paypal!

I need to take a moment to stop and take this all in.

Today is day for the history books. Not only did we

just elect our first black president, but we elected

someone who FINALLY will lead the US to greatness.

This has been a long time coming, and I think the

whole world partakes in our excitement today. The

world looks bright and hopeful again. We feel like

we can achieve anything again!

My parents came to this country to achieve The

American Dream, and after so many years of it

being a nightmare for some, it seems achieveable

once again!

Jake and I are in a scary situation right now, we

are in the middle of purchasing a house and people

are being laid off at Jake's work; all hope felt lost,

but starting today, it seems so much brighter. I am

not afraid anymore, because I know Barack Obama

will not let us down.

I know he cannot do it alone and I am prepared to

help in anyway I am asked to. For once in my life

I feel proud to be an American and I feel patriotic,

and I feel hopeful for my future!

I love him.

I bought my first "REAL" piece of "GROWN UP" furniture this weekend! My definition of 'real' and 'grown up' means not purchased for less than $50; not a hand me down; not 30+ years old, and does not come in a box!!!

Now mind you, there is nothing wrong with any of the above - in fact my ENTIRE house is furnished with things that meet those criteria, however I've been saving up for a while to buy new furniture for when we move into our new house and this just happened to be on SUPER SALE!!!

If you haven't already, please take a moment to check out a very important team I belong to: HOST - the Helping Others Street Team. We formed at Christmas time last year when someone asked a very important question in the Etsy forums: is anyone in need this season?

It was such a simple question and I don't think any of us were prepared for what followed. I couldn't believe the amount of people that flocked to not only tell their stories but for all the help they gave as well! It was amazing! And it all happened so fast.

I was at work when the thread started and I followed it for over 3 hours. When it was time to go home I was just so amazed that I couldn't leave my computer! Needless to say, I left work a little late that day! When I got home I kept following, I couldn't stop reading in awe.

Click here for the original thread - there were 2,933 posts in that first thread! What followed was the formation of our street team, then a store but most importantly, amazing friendships!

I did it! I made a dress!

After much fighting with my sewing machine, I finally made a baby dress I was happy with. I found a fantastic fabric I wanted to use for little baby Sophie but first, I had to do a trial run...
Let's take a moment to remember the poor fabric that had to be sacrificed before getting a winner... and here is the finished product!!!

Its a reversible dress, which after I got the hang of it, was surprisingly easy!

White on the outside, yellow on the inside!

New Frontiers

I ventured into new and unknown territory this past weekend. I received some beautiful felted beads from HandBEHG and decided to make some earrings, and a few necklaces. I have to say I was very surprised at how difficult it was! I now have an even GREATER appreciation and admiration for all the fabulous jewelry artists on Etsy! Its hard work what they do!

So this weekend I made two necklaces: a simple one with ribbon and beads, and a more complicated one with ribbon, beads, felted balls and chain. It was so pretty and I wish I would have taken a picture (I'll post it later). I showed my little sister, who is my toughest critic and to my surprise she loved it - so I gave it to her.

The necklaces will have to be my next project but, what I want to show you now are the earrings! My good friend Maisy from Etsy, encouraged me to list them, so they MIGHTgo up this weekend...if I don't chicken out!

She gave me some awesome tips on wire wrapping and how to use the pliers, so I hope I can master it! I gotta say though, its not as easy as it looks! And Maisy has A LOT more experience than I do. If you haven't already, check out her shop - it's absolutely fabulous!!

My Studio...

I finally had the guts to take pictures of my craft space and allow the world to see. I don't know if I'm really proud or severely ashamed! Proud at how I turned a 7 foot by 7 foot "room" into an actual studio, or terribly embarrassed to even call it a studio since it's nothing more than a no name room as we like to affectionately call it! Here goes!!!

A little background first. This house was built over 100 years ago and when it was constructed it had no bathroom and ended at the kitchen. When it was remodelled, there was no place to add a bathroom but "outside" the house, so its got this weird little addition to the back just off the kitchen. If you look closely in some of the pictures, you can see the siding and shingles from the orginal back of the house! Anyway, it resulted in this weird little no use "room" that I decided to turn into MY space. Here you go!

Here's my messy, messy, desk. See the funny thing is its not messy at all but I have SO MUCH junk it looks that way, doesn't it? That border you see along the top of the desk is a little wall built that covers the staircase that leads to the basement. Yes, the basement we NEVER go down to - well, I don't go down to. I am so terrified of it I bought that white curtain and hung it from the ceiling so I don't have to look at the staircase and think about monsters attacking me while I have nothing to defend myself with except a glue gun!

Here is a closeup where you can spot three wonderful Etsy seller's things: StitchandTells wonderful art (the blue waterfall piece in the back); ThreeMusesCrafts ACEO cards and LAOriginals beautiful plum brooch! You can also see my beloved Blythe Doll and a new ACEO I just finished - first one EVER - and a new brooch design I am working on.

Next is my storage space, it makes me feel better to call it an actual "space" as opposed to a corner! Lots of things going on here: art - finished - and in progress. Photo collages also in progress... I'm starting to see a pattern here, can you tell I have ADHD? Oh and not to mention a completely out of control Hello Kitty addiction! Oh yeah like the toaster oven? We got it for Christmas and somehow it ended up in here.

And one last one just for pretty: this doesn't have much use other than for a little aesthetic appeal and to house a few of my scarves and magazines.

My Birthday Celebration

So, we were supposed to have a BBQ on Saturday for my Birthday but we got rained in, so Jake just grilled outside and we ate inside. We had a yummy feast of veggie burgers, veggie hot dogs, grilled zucchini, and homemade salsa! Mmmmmmmm.

Also Black Eyed Susan (Jake's band) was gonna do a yard show but because of the rain we moved it into the living room. Yeah, that was quite the adventure! 30+ people in a teeny, tiny, house - not such a good idea!

(Apparently it was Hat Day for the band!)

Super fun times! We didn't end up going to bed until five in the morning! Oy, it was a long night but it was super fun, and this yummy cake made it all worthwhile!!!

Now the celebrating is all done, and its back to normal life. Until next year, sweet, sweet, Birthday!

Holy crap, I am 23 today! Eeeeeeek. Just had to share how cute Etsy is: when you log in you get a little welcome message wishing you a Happy Birthday! Can you find me? I am on there twice, with my seller and buyer account!

Also when I got in my car this morning to go to work, I found this waiting for me!!! The new Yael Naim CD!!! Hubby put it in my CD player for me so it started playing as soon as I turned on the car! He is so cute! I have been listening to it all day at work! Check it out if you haven't already, its great! She also sings in Hebrew.

I have to show off the other stuff I got as well: an awesome Slash T-Shirt that I have been wanting forever! I love Guns N' Roses - what can I say?! Oh guess what I heard on the radio this morning? Dr. Pepper has offered Axl Rose a deal that if he finishes his CD "Chinese Democracy" which has been in the makings for 17 years (!), they will give each person in the United States a FREE can off Dr. Pepper! How awesome is that? I am not a fan of Dr. P but the owner must be a pretty dedicated fan of Axl Rose!!!

Also I got an awesome Hello Kitty easter basket filled with my favorite candy - which means it was all Reeses's Peanut Butter cup related, and these earrings!!! AHHHHH! I love Tokidoki, and I love even more that Jake knows exactly what I like! Yup, I think he is definitely a keeper! Thanks babe!

He is throwing me a Hello Kitty themed party on Saturday, so I will keep you posted... It snowed today so not too sure how its gonna work out but we'll see!

Brooches - Badges - Pins

Finally after what seems like weeks and weeks, I finally finished photographing, cropping, editing, and listing my new pins!!! I made these in a spurt of desperation. I had so many pent up ideas in my head and I needed to let them out. I am not really sure why but I am incredibly satisfied with the way these turned out. I truly think its the colors. I am so sick of winter, everything is so ugly, and dirty and these just came out so cheerful!

This is my Navy brooch, because it seems nautical to me for some reason. Plus I have a new obsession with mustard yellow and I think that navy blue and green are phenomenal. I am a nerd. Who uses words like "phenomenal"? Oy...

Eeeeek! First blog post ever! Ok, I can do this...

For those of you that don't know me, my name is Maura. I am 22 years old (23 on March 27th!). I am a HUGE procrastinator, so I hope I stick this out! I'm not really sure if I want to keep this purely Etsy related, or if I want to add personal tid bits, so keep posted to find out what I decide! Just too forewarn you, I am obsessed with cuteness, and this blog might want to make you puke. I am known for that.
